About Silver Oak
Silver Oak is the celebration Cabernet. Founded in 1972 by Justin Meyer and Ray Twomey Duncan, the winery built its reputation on a single varietal (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) and a singular approach: exclusive aging in American oak, never French. The result is a softer, vanilla-and-toast-forward Cab that has become the signature pour at anniversary dinners, business celebrations, and milestone gift exchanges.
The winery operates two estates, one in Oakville, Napa Valley, and one in Healdsburg, Alexander Valley, each producing a single Cabernet Sauvignon from its respective region. Silver Oak also runs its own cooperage in Higbee, Missouri, giving the family control over every step of the barrel-making process, a rarity in American wine.

Silver Oak FAQs
Where is Silver Oak made? Silver Oak operates two wineries: one in Oakville, Napa Valley, and one in Healdsburg, Alexander Valley. Each produces a single Cabernet Sauvignon from its respective region.
Who founded Silver Oak? Silver Oak was founded in 1972 by Justin Meyer, a former Christian Brother monk and winemaker, and Ray Twomey Duncan. The Duncan family still owns and operates the winery today.
Why does Silver Oak only use American oak? Founder Justin Meyer believed American oak's vanilla, toast, and dill notes complemented Cabernet Sauvignon more naturally than French oak. Silver Oak runs its own cooperage in Higbee, Missouri, to control every step of barrel making.
What's the difference between Silver Oak Napa and Alexander Valley? The Napa Cabernet is bigger, more structured, and longer-aging — built for milestone moments. The Alexander Valley is more approachable, with brighter red fruit and softer tannins, and is widely loved for everyday celebrations. Both use the same 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, single-variety, American-oak philosophy.
Can I personalize a bottle of Silver Oak? Yes. Personal Wine offers custom labeling and laser engraving on every Silver Oak bottle, including the large-format magnums and 3L bottles. Designs can include names, dates, monograms, photos, logos, or full custom artwork.
Which Silver Oak is best for a gift? Silver Oak Napa Valley is the higher-tier choice and signals premium occasion. Alexander Valley is the original and is widely loved for its everyday-celebration approachability. For weddings, retirements, and executive milestones, the 1.5L magnum or 3L large format makes a statement-level gift.
Where does Personal Wine ship Silver Oak? Personal Wine ships personalized wine to most U.S. states. Some states have restrictions on direct-to-consumer wine shipments, and your eligibility is confirmed at checkout based on your ZIP code.
